Beage designed the Bulldog for the RAF as a replacement for the aging De Havilland Chipmunk trainer. The prototype flew on 19th May 1969 at Shorham and showed great promise. Unfortunately Beagle went bust in 1970, but Scottish Aviation steppedin and acquired the development and manufacturing rights.
