It belongs to the same linguistic family of both Spanish and Portuguese so that's why it's very resembling to both of them.Then, there is another Romance spoken in the Iberian Peninsula -Catalan- but it's more resembling to Provençal and French so it's classified within Gallo-Romances.;)
