Mar 19, 2007 - McCarthy Sensei...very nice stuff. I can see why those who buy into [or should I say cannot see beyond] "styles" would be threatened by your drills.

Mar 29, 2007 - I 've done this before (or part of it) during a seminar of Sensei McCarthy in Belgium a few years back. Still impressed by him and his teachings! Respect! Thank you for Bubishi!

May 1, 2007 - I went to a nidan grading last September and completely DESTROYED all people grading. I love karate passionately. And have been a Koryu Uchinadi enthusiast for about 8 years. However after obsessively watchin (NOT ACTUALLY DOING) brazilian jiu jitsu videos, I was able to defeat my opponents in a convincing manner. This is not an attack but an honest question... how was I able to do this? any replies would be appreciated. PS. This is not an attack on practitioners of IRKRS or the sylabus.

May 15, 2007 - Is this something as advanced kote kitae?
mccarthysensei Says:
May 16, 2007 - These excerpts represent a cross-section of two-person conditioning drills I personally developed for Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo-jutsu; they range from Kote Kitae and Muchimi, to Kakie and Ude Tanren including checking, trapping and controlling. I systematized them into ritualized practices during the years I resided and studied in Japan under the name, "Tegumi."

Jun 26, 2007 - Hmm, I hardly know what to say...who are you? What style do you practice? UR a nidan in what? What was the critria you were grading against? Who were the folks you destroyed? What grades/experience levels were they? I'd need to know these things before I can comment.

Jul 2, 2007 - How good is it against Wing Tsun? For every attack there's a counter, but I was just curious. AWESOME Martial Arts and vids!

Jul 7, 2007 - KU uses the same kind of drills that WC use not to mention an extensive range of grappling and ground work. Traditionally speaking, WC does not employ such practies. You do the math.

Jul 27, 2007 - McCarthy Sensei, these are nice drills and but me in the mind frame of some of the drills I practice adapted from sao drills and hubud drills. I found that the "folding" in karate blacks is actually applications similar to those in hubud and WC and make nice sensitivity and energy drills. How might one obatain a copy of these drills you have devised?

Sep 20, 2007 - It strikes me that a lot of what you do follows the JKD theory but just a different landscape. I'm impressed

Dec 11, 2007 - Osu, Mccarthy sensei, i train with sensei peter weatherspoon, and we used to do the second of the two drills, and bits of the first one, but we don't do it so much anymore, but um interested in it, so i've asked him to teach it to me.

Dec 20, 2007 - To see karate come alive like this is a real thrill. It's there in the kata (some, I now see), but I really admire the study, research and mind that has dug it out and gone beyond.

Oct 14, 2008 - I'm just now learning these drills and they get real hard to do when you have to do 20 repetitions on each each side, left and right. I do see some variation to what I am doing...I don't do the headbutt on the second drill. On the last drill the Kake Uke (grab block) I don't swing it around my head like they do. All in all...its a get workout!! I love Koryu.
