Dec 13, 2007 - "I've been using similar equipment for decades, and it always worked great."And beans cooked over wood magically taste better, too! :-)
Desertphile Says:
Dec 13, 2007 - "Every fucking thing was spam."Google is partly to blame for that, but also unsecured gateways. There was a time when Usenet was useful.
Desertphile Says:
Dec 13, 2007 - "Is there similar functionality out there for FireFox?"I am writing a Greasemonkey user script to add a similar function to FireFox. The problem is that I must learn JavaScript first. ARGH!
Desertphile Says:
Dec 13, 2007 - "It is a steaming pile of crap."Gods, I cannot agree more! :-) I use FireFox. I made the IE BHO because the majority of humanity apparently uses IE. I am working on a FireFox version, using Greasemonkey.
Desertphile Says:
Dec 13, 2007 - "...though it'd be good if it were implemented for Opera &/or Firefox, too."I am working on a Greasemonkey User Script to add the same functions to FireFox. The problem is that I must learn JavaScript first.

Dec 13, 2007 - "The problem is that I must learn JavaScript first."Ah... Details, details... :-PI once learned some of the rudiments of it, but I think I've succeeded in totally forgetting them.

Dec 13, 2007 - I need a free news client that filters. Do you know of any that are trustworthy?
Desertphile Says:
Dec 13, 2007 - "I need a free news client that filters. Do you know of any that are trustworthy?"NewsProxy and FreeAgent work together to add an excellent Usenet filter. Configure FreeAgent to use the NNTP server LOCALHOST, and configure NewsProxy to use your real NNTP server. I have both--- shall I send them to you?

Dec 13, 2007 - Yeah, me, too.But I tend to repick up the coding if I dive back into it again for whatever reason.I must know a zillion little bits of every code there is....lol

Dec 13, 2007 - Gods! I know what you mean. If I dug deep enough, I might even scrape out a little Fortran.
EvilZoe Says:
Dec 13, 2007 - I can't beat that, but I've got my own ancient oddball knowledge. You ever hear of The Palace chat client?I used to do IPTSCRAE coding...lol
Desertphile Says:
Dec 13, 2007 - "I must know a zillion little bits of every code there is....lol"I had considered learning RPG400, but I discovered it was much easier just to destroy IBM instead.

Dec 13, 2007 - "I send them to you?"I checked -- it doesn't run under Windows 3.1 so no need, thanks.

Dec 13, 2007 - If you have any arthritis at all, wood heat is the very best. It has a kind of radiant heat that just drives the pain away. I wish I had a wood heater.
Desertphile Says:
Dec 13, 2007 - "do you develop something for mozilla firefox?"Microsoft sucks limes, and of course they are to blame for much of the shit that happens to the internet. As for FireFox, I am trying to make a Google Groups Killfile for it. I also want to make a script to improve parts of YouTube.
EvilZoe Says:
Dec 13, 2007 - "I also want to make a script to improve parts of YouTube."Oh, man. THAT would be awesome. If, of course, they didn't manage to fuck it up while implementing it...lol
Eyedunno Says:
Dec 14, 2007 - Let us know when and if you have the killfile extension (or whatever) for Firefox. I'm very interested.
AVoiceFromGermany Says:
Dec 14, 2007 - How about Hamster? A free Mail&News Server, open source, written in Delphi (IIRC), great scripting and filtering abilities, English version available (AFAIK)
AVoiceFromGermany Says:
Dec 14, 2007 - There's a Win32 extension for Win 3.11 out there, that's all it needs to run, I never liked the reader functionality, though. I use an old version, only updated it once in ... umm, well,10 years? Never had a problem with it.
Desertphile Says:
Dec 14, 2007 - "Let us know when and if you have the killfile extension (or whatever) for Firefox."That I shall indeed do. Many people, including myself, need such a thing. I wish Google would implement it themselves.
