The greek cypriot military junta aka terrorist organisation stirred up troubles. Beforehand, there wasn't any big troubles between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots. Read Christopher Hitchen's book if you refuse to believe the facts.

It's an extremist organisation, and a racist one - unfortunately racists exist in every country and there's not that much we can do about it. Most of the population condemn that kind of extremism. Also, it has nothing to do with the British education system, as the Cyprus issue is not taught in high school history lessons. I just read historical accounts on issues that aren't taught on the syllabus in my own free time.
