Jun 1, 2008 - Fannie Lou Hamer was my relative, she was married to my father's 1st cousin, Perry Pap Hamer, and also the ironic thing about some dates surrounding her was that she did the 1st civil rights march on my 2nd birth-day August 31, 1962 and she died on my mother's birthday, Mach 14, 1977! She was truly a hero!

Jul 10, 2008 - For the first ten years of my life, I grew up in Ruleville, Mississippi. Fannie Lou Hamer was the director of the Head Start Center I attended. Although I did not fully understand who she was at the time, I knew there was something special about her and now that I am an adult, I understand that I must stand up and sacrifice for others, the way Mrs. Hamer stood up and sacrificed for me!

Oct 27, 2008 - Being Irish, i had never heard of Fannie Lou Hamer until i watched a program on TV last night and her story just captivated me, so much so that i'm online now trying to find out all i can about her. I can only say, what an amazing woman she was, so brave and inspiring. She should be put up alongside Martin Luther King and people all around the world, like me, she know her name and her story as we do MLK's
