Nov 25, 2008 - while i agree with you i've never personally understood the title of "grunge". it sees like it was more of a label thought up by stupid magazines/corporations looking to make money. i've always considered pearl jam more of a rock band and nirvana more of a punk band though both were better in those genres than most other bands.

spud0050 Says:
Nov 26, 2008 - i understand where you're coming from. it just seems kind of degrading to put bands like soundgarden, alice in chains, nirvana, and pearl jam under one genre like "grunge" as none of them sounded alike at all. the title of grunge just never seemed to make sense and neither did alternative. these bands are more harder/real rock than even most "classic" rock bands like kansas, journey, etc. I'm making more of a curious observation than an argument.
spud0050 Says:
Nov 26, 2008 - even the bands themselves thought the title "grunge" was a joke. it was just something some guy they didnt even know thought up to describe their music. they just thought they were playing music. the only reason there was a scene that came after them was because posers bought into the "grunge" fad.
BALLS3344 Says:
Nov 26, 2008 - no band ever really called themselves grunge.. it was more of a media label... just listen to the music and stop agruin over dumb shit like wut to label somethin

Nov 26, 2008 - I always thought it was about a daughter who couldn't live up to her mother's standards (who can, amirite?) but neglects to see that she doesn't have to, so she continues trying to no avail.
badmoon710 Says:
Nov 26, 2008 - It is, its also about a broken home that a girl grew up in with a lot of violence in it.

quixxxilver Says:
Nov 27, 2008 - Eddie Vedder said:"The child in that song obviously has a learning difficulty... But no one knew what it was. And these kids, because they seemed unable or reluctant to learn, they'd end up getting the shit beaten outta them. The song ends...with this idea of the shades going down--so that the neighbours can't see what happens next. What hurts about that [is] they have to live with that abuse for the rest of their lives."
