Jul 17, 2008 - Yes it would. As for lighting functions, once turned on via DCC, it will remain on in analog operation.

Aug 8, 2008 - Hello There, Question:How did you strip off the cab #s without hurting the SP Lark Grey finish ?? Thanks...

mtrails Says:

Aug 8, 2008 - I scraped the numbers off with a sharp xacto knife, then wet sanded with 1000 grit sandpaper. I repainted the cab anyway because of the details I added. If you just wanted to change the numbers, after scraping and sanding them off, you could just gloss coat the cab sides and put new numbers on. When I scrape with the blade, I make very light passes to slowly and carefully remove the numbers one at a time.

Sep 2, 2008 - Another question:This does not have to do with this GP38, but more SPs in general. Often you will see by their Cab #s a Division or City out of which the unit is based...."Los Angeles" or "Houston" and it will be directly under the Cab #. Does Micrscale make those decals -- or someone else for SP?? Thanks, Arturo

mtrails Says:

Sep 2, 2008 - Thanks!

mtrails Says:

Sep 2, 2008 - Yes, Microscale has two specific decal sheets for SP, that include the base city decals. The sheet i use most often is part number 87-447. I don't recall the other one off hand. YW- Jeremy

preiser88 Says:

Sep 12, 2008 - Got the SP 87-447 Decal Set as you recommended. Outstanding -- Thanks.Another question on your GP38 -- that rotary/circular windshield equipment: is that a Detail Assoc/West part?? Where can one get those parts? Thanks Again, Arturo

mtrails Says:

Sep 12, 2008 - You're welcome.I don't remember exactly, but I think the circular windows are called nautical windows. They fling water and snow off. What I used is a decal. I found it in the drawer full of miscellaneous decals at the hobby shop. I couldn't tell you where to start looking. :|

preiser88 Says:

Sep 13, 2008 - OK -- Thanks Again. How about the Window Screens up front ??

Dawgie101 Says:

Nov 3, 2008 - Hey mtrails, small world eh? I had no idea this was your video until the end. Anyway, nice job! I've done a few kitbash jobs myself. some just adding parts like you did, some total strip and rebuild. I'm a little sloppy with the cac though. I just cover it up after with paint and weathering. I haven't seen any other videos on kitbashing and was happy to see yours.thanks,Dan

Nov 13, 2008 - What type of sound decoder did you install in this loco? I just got a Athearn RTR GP38-2 loco and need to install a decoderin it.

mtrails Says:

Nov 13, 2008 - I don't do sound decoders. I only use Digitrax DH123 decoders. The DH123AT package inculdes a quick connect harness for Athearn's and is easy to install.

deandremouse Says:

Nov 13, 2008 - ahh mann I wanted to install a Digitraxx DSX decoder.... I guess this is gonna have to do for nowps- you know when the next episode if taa is coming?

jimmyp42002 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - bachmanns arn't really worht it to install a decoder into unless their spectrum. otherwise they typically draw WAY too much current at stall for the decoder to hande
