Jason was on the boat the entire time until the kids and teachers that were left escaped onto the lifeboat. After that, Jason swam the rest of the way to catch them. They weren't far from New York before they abandoned the cruise ship. They pretty much already there. You people need to go back and watch Part 8.

Even if the ship didn't sink, there's no way it could actually drift to New York the right way. And remember, Jason can't swim, and he has never swim before. He couldn't swim when he died, and he's not gonna swim now.

In most of the Friday the 13th movies when Jason is shot he keeps walking unless he is shot by something stronger then your average pistol. It seemed as if you made Michael a lot stronger, and Jason a lot more...human. Jason isn't human. He's a zombified monster that can kill people with practically anything.
