Mar 30, 2008 - 2 of the all time best artists...wow...and I love that song kern river. I love buck and merle.

mightyhaskett Says:

Apr 1, 2008 - Worked in Bakersfield a month ago. Never been before(even to California). Walked the shores of the Kern in the Mountains and choked on the smog in the valley among the orange trees. It is a jagged place, but this Texas found good, decent people and real country music at Banacheks. Visited Buck's mausoleum and visited with locals who have fished next to a quiet Merle. Great place. Long live Bakersfield.

Emily41162 Says:

Aug 12, 2008 - Merle is problably the most underated song writer and performer, lericist, pure American there ever will be!!! The real guy that encompasses everything there is in America! A true hero, simple, easy for all of us to understand, the workingman's intertainer!!!

gareof Says:

Aug 12, 2008 - Wow-Thanks or the memories- I played guitar at the Pumpkin Center Barn dance back in 1959 with "The Vibrants" - later called "The Jesters" - we played for an hour on Friday & Saturday nights, then the country band with "Jelly Sanders" played for an hour... I played Tex's Barrel house, right down the road from the Blackboard - never played the Lucky Spot or Blackboard, they were a little too country for me...but played a lot of the little nightclubs around - even the Bakersfield Inn once or twice

BigMoose72683 Says:

Aug 13, 2008 - I am a musician who was born in Bakersfield and I still live here. Merle and Buck are like gods in this town and as far as i am concerned rightfully so.

hockeystickbd Says:

Aug 15, 2008 - I believe turboew, I heard something on the fact that Buck tried to steal royalties too from Merle. What goes around comes around, right? Merle got Bucks wife much later in life but he got her none the less. I don't much care for Buck either. He was a cocky man with attitude maybe it was because he was so short. He did alot to George Jones too back in the day. But they all tried to get along in the end. Buck was selfish, that was his problem.

mixxiegurl Says:

Sep 4, 2008 - apparently you never met buck. he was a GREAT man. Honest, giving, and extremely kind. You need a lesson in respect because you are a total ass.

warrenbraden Says:

Sep 5, 2008 - Piss on Nashville! Go hank williams the 3rd!

jhrunion Says:

Oct 9, 2008 - merle took on nashville and won. he did it his way. nashville resents merle because he wrote most of his own material and recorded on the west coast...n-ville songwriters and studio made no $ on the hag. merle was also perceived as a conservative in california when it was the hippie era in the 60's. merle does not get the respect that he deserves.

girlyjojo Says:

Oct 9, 2008 - YOU ARE THE BOMB BABY

johnrunion Says:

Nov 7, 2008 - buck and merle are the best! they mixed up all different kinds of music together but they were smart enough to know to keep it pure, keep it close to the roots...and it all came out TRUE! there will never be another two like these two. BUCK: r.i.p. MERLE: get well soon!

johnrunion Says:

Nov 7, 2008 - bakersfield is where it is at. forget NashVegas !

GerrieCoetzee187 Says:

Nov 8, 2008 - Oildale's finest! OPW!

skeeternash Says:

Nov 14, 2008 - This is a short excerpt from a documentary produced for PBS stations. It aired in the early-90's (I think around 1993-94). I have it on VHS, but it is in pretty bad shape. I wish it would be made available on DVD--it is one of the best things I've ever seen about the Bakersfield Sound and artists. I lived there from '94-2000. Great town!
