Jul 20, 2007 - So is this what idol groups in Japan are like?
KIRBYSIM Says:
Jul 23, 2007 - Actually, from what I've heard, these days J-Pop fans are gravitating more towards boy bands. But otherwise, yeah, for some reason the term 'idol' seems to be attached almost exclusively to female performers in Japanese culture. And by female performers, I don't just mean popstars. Gravure (bikini) models, actresses, porn stars, newscasters, even voice actresses can be referred to as idols in Japan.
KIRBYSIM Says:
Jul 23, 2007 - If I'm not mistaken, 'idol', to the Japanese, is a word of foreign origin that has somehow been fixated to the image of cute/sexy female celebrities. When referring to male celebrities or pop stars in general they either use other foreign words associated with the image of that particular group, or their own native Japanese terms.Disclaimer: I'm not Japanese, so I might be mistaken to some extent.

Jul 26, 2007 - its so visally bizzar that it hypnostises you. the ending was slightly startling and creepy when they spoke to the camera!! eyes eyes eyes!
FallenLazySleep Says:
Sep 2, 2007 - I wonder how do mistakes happen in ths game? I see the 'Accident' happen so what happened? What else do you do while they sing and dance or does it happen after you program who signs what and etc. then let the little idols to be sing and dance?
KIRBYSIM Says:
Sep 3, 2007 - These mistakes are a random occurrence. Not any different from rolling triple doubles in Monopoly and getting sent to jail. Or getting a critical hit in an RPG.As long as your game's idol group possesses low levels in either of three image appeal categories (vocal, dance, or visual), accidents where they mess up in the particularly low category has a high chance of happening. It's really down to luck.
FallenLazySleep Says:
Sep 3, 2007 - Ohhh...! Okay, I get it now. Thanks for explaining.

KIRBYSIM Says:
Dec 31, 2007 - I'm sorry to sink your boat, KHFANGIRL88, in the same way it never feels good to harvest a little girl in Bioshock, but...Idolm@ster never came out in English.
KIRBYSIM Says:
Dec 31, 2007 - There is, however, an upcoming pseudo-sequel to the Idolm@ster coming out in a couple of months entitled 'Idolm@ster Live For You'.
KIRBYSIM Says:
Dec 31, 2007 - Live For You essentially allows you to put a quick performance together by picking the song, the vocalists, their costumes, etc, without having to go through all the simulation stuff. So presumably it would be easier for non-Japanese to wade around in. You'll also be able to purchase new Idolm@ster songs through Xbox Live - if you preorder the game in Japan, the first downloadable song is free.
KHFANGIRL88 Says:

lordknighta1 Says:
Apr 1, 2008 - i dont get the gameplay of the game?
ramensoup43 Says:
Apr 6, 2008 - So... from looking at all these vids of this game, it's basically a decision making game to build up levels and when it's showtime that level determines how well your group does? And this one particular game is just a sim of everything it has to offer or something?

KIRBYSIM Says:
Jul 11, 2007 - Japanese only. It will never be translated for English audiences due to its uniquely-Japanese content; the concept of what an idol is in Japan is somewhat different from that in Western cultures.
