Jul 14, 2008 - 1080i is worse than 720p... interlacing will always be worse than progressive...

DiemetriX Says:

Jul 14, 2008 - Yes. in theory it's true. But on MY tv 1080i looks better. (I know what looks best on my own tv)720p will always be the better signal, but it depends on the tv how good it shows. My Tv doesn't show 720p that good, that's MY TVs fault. And therefor 1080i looks better on it.

aopdjasldksa Says:

Jul 14, 2008 - Well it's not really a theory but closer to being a fact. Yes you tv is a bit strange... but when comparing higher end tv's you will indefinitely get a better resolution/contrast/response time/etc with 720p. It may also be that your tv only supports 1080i max, those tv's that only support 1080i will be a bit strange. I have a bravia and it obviously shows 1080p better.

aopdjasldksa Says:

Jul 14, 2008 - Also 480p isn't really HD per se.

DiemetriX Says:

Jul 14, 2008 - Now this post I agree with 100% :)

ojmask2 Says:

Jul 22, 2008 - If you have a 1080p tv with a good deinterlacer or use a separate video processor to deinterlace the 1080i signal there is no reason 1080p should look any different nor should 720p be better. A properly deinterlaced 1080i signal should be frame for frame identical to the 1080p signal.

Jul 26, 2008 - Okay I have a question. I just bought a 5.1 home theater system and a 22" 720p samsung HDTV. My home theater doesnt have an HDMI input so I was thinking about getting composite cables because they seem to be the best alternative. However, they dont seem to have audio. its only video. what do you think would be the best audio cable? and how do i know if my systems are compatible with them?

DiemetriX Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Most component cables have audio out as well. That would be the red and white cables that are a bit separated from the rest. But for the best sound you should use optical cables if your setup support. Most new system have optical solutions.

Aug 26, 2008 - hi, i have recently upgraded my ps2 to Component cables(my tv didnt have any composite available). after i upgraded i noticed it was alot better. but i noticed one slightly bad thing. my tv started to alightly flicker and there were a few more jagged lines, do i have to set something on my TV??

DiemetriX Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - This is because you now clearly see things a bad signal would hide. You can go into the tv settings and turn down the sharpness to get less jagged lines.

DiemetriX Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - Not sure what series mine is, but I know the version that is newer than mine has noticeably better 720p than 1080i.

blarson12 Says:

Sep 16, 2008 - You need to buy a new high def TV LCD or Plasma as your CRT TV just won't give you the best picture any more. Its like that with computer monitors too. I had a Samsung 15GLe CRT monitor and it was wonderful but now i have a Samsung SyncMaster 915n and it is even better!

anthonybodea Says:

Sep 22, 2008 - so let me this straight if you buy component cables for the wii it'll make the games more jaggie? cause I own a 360 and component looks good on my 1080i HDTV. But wii can only do 480p. last gen consoles were able to do 480p

DiemetriX Says:

Sep 22, 2008 - component cables for wii/ps2 make the jaggies that are already there more visable, Many HDtv owners have their tv sett to super sharp etc, this adds even more interferance. So be sure to check your sharpness settings if you get jaggies.

anthonybodea Says:

Sep 23, 2008 - yeah I usually keep my sharpness to about 50 percent cause I kno that doesn't make a difference. I never max out my TV sharpness. the only problem with one of my tv's is that its' a 61" inch DLP. And 480p will look like shit on that giant thing.

DiemetriX Says:

Sep 23, 2008 - The improvement in quality is quite big though. I would never recomend standard cables over Component.

CrdBrdProjects Says:

Oct 3, 2008 - woah i find that strange, component cables shouldn't affect any graphics at all, only clearness.

DiemetriX Says:

Oct 3, 2008 - Component cables the jaggies that are already there more visable. They don't effect the graphics. Old tv's mask jaggies cause the picture is so blury. But HDtv's has a clear image with no blur.
