Nov 10, 2008 - Mr. Beaty, I noticed it was a bit wobbly, a few times in the video you grabbed it to stop it.I wondered if you wrapped the magnet in aluminum foil, whether it might damp out- that way if the magnet approaches the copper it would see a sort of reflection of itself coming closer and the eddy currents in the foil should tend to act as a brake and stabilise it after a few cycles.

Nov 10, 2008 - Actually, if you touch it and press down on it, either you'll stop it if the motor isn't powerful enough to keep it going, or what will happen is you'll generate heat. Unless the copper surface is like a rasp, the worst that could happen is you'd get a burn from that heat.
