Aug 29, 2008 - Baguazhang has some of the most vicious unarmed combat moves ever devised

stardingo747 Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - only because its combined with Xing Yi, which punches in a straight line. Circular dodging, combined with straight punching, are a deadly combination. Especially when all punches are aimed at the clavicle or just below the sternum.

Bastion83 Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - admittedly you are correct about xing yi's power but to say that baqua is only truly dangerous when coupled with xing yi is a slight to the style.

HistoryLabyrinth Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - what? Bagua is tipical northern wushu by the logic off movement and by its philosophy. And yes it is a new style.

stardingo747 Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - hardly; Baguazhang masters prided themselves in their pacifist attitude because they claimed Baguazhang followed Daoist teachings better than Tai Chi Chuan or other forms of Kung Fu.

ParryPerson Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - I don't know what I was smoking, bagua is NORTHERN*

ParryPerson Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - but it is not shaolin

BaguazhangMaster Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - No one ever said that that Baguazhang was any better than Taijichuan. If fact Taijichuan is more widely practiced in China and around the world. Its not nearly as complicated, so its easier to achieve the health desired with Taijichuan. Baguazhang was only represented as a higher Orthodox system of Neijiaquan because of the I Ching. Which is very true. Baguazhang represents the very symbol of Daoism. You cant pick and chose with Neijia. All 3 must be incorporated.

BaguazhangMaster Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - Traditionally the 2 arts of Xing Yi Chuan and Baguazhang were practiced completely seperatly. The only reason they are practiced together NOW, is because of combat and modernization. In the technical perspective they are better together. But they were never traditionally taught as 1.

BaguazhangMaster Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - Very True mdvvi. Baguazhang, or Zhuan Zhang as it was formally called, was a war style. Its was a style taught to the royal soldiers to protect an Empress quite a while back. People tend to see Baguazhang as a soft style but it isn't only soft. There are several very hard techniques in it. The common misconception of it being completely soft comes form poor teaching and improper understanding of martial arts in general. No martial arts are easy or soft. They are all very different.

BaguazhangMaster Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - No martial arts are pacifist. That's an impossibility. I'm not sure who your being taught by, but you should probably find a new teacher Stardingo. just about everything you said was incorrect. No offense I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but seriously you should teach things you don't know anything about.

BaguazhangMaster Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - shouldn't sorry.

Bastion83 Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - Thought so, but didnt want to do what some others do and cause a fuss. *bows* I wish to god I could find a master in this state for this style, and one that would accept me if I did.
