Dec 31, 2008 - Thank you, I thought it was one of my best - Happy New Year!
georeff23 Says:
Dec 31, 2008 - Yeah, but... [sticking with Manchester].. to me its like Paul Ryder covering Step On, Marr doing Headmaster's ritual or (god forbid) Squire trying to pull off Sally Cinnamon (!). Ok, none of the original singers are dead (although Shuan might be a zombie) - but this version looses a lot in translation.p.s. Coming up next... [not Manc] Dave Grohl covers Heart Shaped Box... mmmm!
uberblob81 Says:
Dec 31, 2008 - You can't cover your own song!just because they have a different singer! :D haha
gorky45 Says:
Jan 1, 2009 - It's showing respect to a dead friend/band member. New order almost would not be after the death of their friend..Ian Curtis.
chalkiboy Says:
Jan 1, 2009 - to me its like the police trying to do a song without sting, it wouldnt work....wait...
flowerlike42 Says:
Jan 2, 2009 - What I was trying to say is that they were great as Joy Division and great as New Order...because they were the same persons. And they showed that their greatness was not due only to their front man though he was with no doubt unreplaceable. Having said that,JOY DIVISION forever!
berkhob Says:
Jan 2, 2009 - i prefer warsaw myself like

Jan 3, 2009 - Fair play, didn't mean to pick a fight (although see above...)!

Jan 3, 2009 - Berk....
ThEOnlyMistake123 Says:
Jan 3, 2009 - i personally don't enjoy his singing compared to ian's, it's not as low and doesn't have a certain tone fitted for the song. But they are a whole different band and a different sound, still like the both of them and great cover.
chubbers83 Says:
Jan 3, 2009 - They're not really a whole different band, they're just one guy short of Joy Division. Though their sound was very different from their earlier work with Ian.
tanksz1128 Says:
Jan 4, 2009 - I don't hate New Order, I actually like most of their music, but they will never be able to beat Joy Division songs. Ian Curtis was the main drive behind all of JD's work so whenever New Order plays it, it feels incomplete. I think we can all agree that Ian's voice fit the JD songs better than Bernard's.
tanksz1128 Says:
Jan 4, 2009 - yes I do know that New Order is JD minus Ian Curtis.
ml2001 Says:
Jan 4, 2009 - Steve Morris is such a great drummer....
leeraconteur Says:
Jan 5, 2009 - "Ian Curtis was the main drive behind all of JD's work so whenever New Order plays it, it feels incomplete."Two things all critics of rock and roll fail at:1) They overlook colour and timber. They only look at the chords and melody, and dismiss rock as repetition.2) They miss the chemistry that is inherent in rock and roll bands. The Clash, led zeppelin, JD/NO, etc.Remove Curt who almost never played guitar live, and have the exact guys do the song, and it loses much of its power.
jaroddavis27 Says:
Jan 5, 2009 - better than the original
ComDisk16 Says:
Jan 5, 2009 - Still, 3 of these guys were in the band, even without Curtis, they're still the original preformers. I admit, it doesn't quite sound the same without him, but it does sound good.
redrosso77 Says:
Jan 6, 2009 - bravi,ma non e' la stessa cosa..
notdecent Says:
Jan 6, 2009 - haha bollocks, no one prefers warsaw
Czackharjo Says:
Jan 6, 2009 - Thank you for decent commentary....I am 43 yrs old...Was going to Cal State L.A.during this period of my life as a Music Major.Joy Division has ALWAYS been close to my heart, be it memories of the times then, or wharever....New Order was simply a different group Alltogether..New Order was fun and "joyful" most of the time.whereas J.D. was much more 'morose'. All of it was/is excellent.Peter Murphy is NOT Bauhaus, is NOT Love and Rockets is NOT Tones on Tail...
clockwork11 Says:
Jan 7, 2009 - agreed, keeps such perfect meter and consistency; so many drummers screw up the song by "improvising" or hitting weird notes and spoiling the rhythm
badbob1983 Says:
Jan 7, 2009 - i think new order are better with synthesisers and computers, but not as good with drums and guitars
AndyCorn90 Says:
Jan 7, 2009 - as a joy division fan i think this is a geat cover. Theres no point trying to perform it in a way like they did when ian curtis was alive cos it cant be copied.

flowerlike42 Says:
Dec 31, 2008 - Why then they never looked for another new singer to fill in Ian's place ? I agree, New Order are brilliant...but don't forget they had been Joy Division before
