They've always been mostly a black metal band, but some of the older material had some death metal qualities, but it was usually in the lyrics of particular songs. It doesn't really matter, because without Venom, both subgenres probably wouldn't exist. At least in my opinion.

May 28, 2008 - That is true, they did inspire both scenes to an extent. But the lyrics about Satan, the vocals ... that's definitely more Black Metal. On this track in particular though, I do agree that the guitar is quite death metally, seems somewhat more full and deep than the often shrill and scratchier black metal guitar parts. Cool shit, either way.
