Nov 1, 2008 - Brett Keane is at war with himself.

Nov 1, 2008 - Can anyone tell me what Brett Keane did?
Petersunnergren Says:
Nov 1, 2008 - As a non-atheist agnostic, I can confirm your last sentence. I am not a half-assed believer, I do not believe in any particular god but I do not want to be asociated with people who claim to be absolutely certain of the non-existance of a god. In my opinion they are just as bad as religious freaks in trying to pass off their beliefs as facts, and yes, the belief in the non-existance of god IS a belief. Is there a god? I don't know, and neither does anyone. Why not just man up and admit to it.
thekure42 Says:
Nov 1, 2008 - I'm sorry for what I'm about to write, as you're probably a nice guy. But I think your post provides some good examples of the intellectual cowardice that I think is typical of many self-proclaimed agnostics. You accuse atheists of claiming absolute certainty, even though you've probably never heard an atheist make that claim. You also say that believing in an invisible father-thing is no more crazy than not believing. I think you've gone to a lot of trouble to equate atheists with religious.
Petersunnergren Says:
Nov 1, 2008 - I apologize for not making myself as clear as I could have but youtube wouldn't allow a longer post. I do not accuse all atheists of having the dogmatic view I descibed, but I have on several occasions in conversations with atheists, heard that claim.I do think though, that I made it clear that it's not "non belief" that I find crazy, it's people that pass off their beliefs OR non beliefs as facts I have a problem with.I think Honesty desribes my view better than "intellectual cowerdice"
thekure42 Says:
Nov 1, 2008 - Well, even if all atheists were arrogant fanatics, that still wouldn't make atheist arguments any less valid. And if someone chooses a worldview because of who they like better, that's what I call intellectual cowardice. It sort of sounded like that's what you did.I have no doubt that you're honest. But have you really thought this through? Saying some atheists are just as bad as religious freaks... that's just ridiculous, and you know it. As bad Fred Phelps? As al Qaeda? Come on.
Petersunnergren Says:
Nov 1, 2008 - Choosing a worldview because of who I like better is not what I have done and it isn't anything like what I described. I do not believe in god but I do't claim that I know for a fact that he doesn't exist. Anyone who claims to know for sure is making fact out of something he can't possibly know and that is the folly of religion, and it is a folly shared with some (not all) atehists. And don't play the al Qaeda card. They'd be violent dicks with or without religion. It just gives them an excuse
thekure42 Says:
Nov 2, 2008 - "And don't play the al Qaeda card. They'd be violent dicks with or without religion"Really? I won't question your knowledge of al Qaeda's motivation, but should I assume that the same is true for Fred Phelps, Hamas, the Taliban, Lebanese Phalangists, Sinn Fein, the Inquisition and Islamic Jihad? What about other ideologies that are said to be violent or oppressive, like extreme communism, racism or nationalism? Are they also just innocent refuges for "violent dicks"?

Nov 4, 2008 - b.a.d.a.s.s.You go...girl?Great vid.
Petersunnergren Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - I don't quite understand what you are doing. Am I to interpret your complete change of subject as a surrender? This has absolutely nothing to do with what I was saying, I was pointing out that dogmatic faith in any belief, be it the existance or the non-existance of anything is ignorant, and you're shooting off on a tangent about terrorism and human viciousness trying to make it seem like I am defending something I didn't even remotely mentioned.Or do you just like saying things?
thekure42 Says:
Nov 5, 2008 - Read my post in connection with the quote I put there. You said al Qaeda had nothing to do with religion.
Petersunnergren Says:
Nov 5, 2008 - I really don't want to comment on that as it was meant as a brush-off of your previous attempt to change the subject but ok:I did not say Al Qaeda has nothing to do with religion, in fact I did not say anything even remotely like it. They are a very religious group, but what they are doing they are doing as a response to what they feel has been done to them, religious or not. I am not defending what they do but to think that the only reason they attack is because of their faith is ludicrus.
thekure42 Says:
Nov 5, 2008 - "I did not say Al Qaeda has nothing to do with religion, in fact I did not say anything even remotely like it"Rubbish. You said "They'd be violent dicks with or without religion". That means you think religion isn't relevant to their motivation, which simply isn't true.

Nov 21, 2008 - Religion does nothing wrong. The people who are Evil do things that are wrong.Atheists don't do good.Good people do good.Religion is a reason to do good .Love thy enemy.pray for those who persecute you.Atheism is about freedom of the mind and of the speech ; in other words , Atheism is unpredictable. You don't know if an atheist is going to do good or bad.I believe in the freedoms you atheists believe , but i still have religion.

Oct 31, 2008 - Agnostics believe that the knowledge of God is unknowable. You can be an agnostic theist, or agnostic atheist, or a gnostic of the two.
