williampascua Says:

May 17, 2008 - I'm not sure if it makes sense to say that the underlying reality of phenomena must be one, i.e. non plural, as Copleston says (toward the end of section one). I think that's one possibility as to how things are in themselves. But this is just speculation because we have no direct access to the nature of noumena.

siddhaam Says:

May 21, 2008 - Coppleston was saying that that is what Schopenhauer believed. I dont think C agrees at all with S, whereas Magee is more favourable. I agree with you that by defination such a view can only be a speculation. I wonder is that all any philosophy can be.

Jul 12, 2008 - Its from a British television series 'The Great Philosophers' that aired in the 1970's. All the transcripts of the interviews were published in a book of the same name, don't know if it is still in print.

Aug 17, 2008 - I always love the mini biography before dealing with the philosophical ideas . . . it shows the philosopher as a ongoing work of intellectual 'art'

debyte Says:

Aug 25, 2008 - noumena is and of itself, it does not require 'discovery' it is the realisation of actuality that is realised in the nature of Being

debyte Says:

Aug 25, 2008 - His history of Philosophy is dry and tedious; but much more preferable to Russell's 'History of Western of Philosophy' which is lamentable in the extreme.

rootberg Says:

Sep 6, 2008 - I don't think it is dry at all. It's not an action movie, it's a scholarly work.

lutzie200 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - I rather like Russell's "History..." but it's a personal view of a man of his time. And quite a good read.
