Sep 19, 2008 - I never considered myself a "cross-dresser", at least not like Phil. I am a drag queen. Years (and many pounds) ago, I performed weekends in a cabaret show. I had occasion to watch this episode with my mother one morning, over coffee, on Lifetime. Both of us crying uncontrollably. That morning will always be one of the closest bonding moments between us. God Rest You Estelle!! And thanks for all the years of love and comfort to so many.

Oct 5, 2008 - Its hard to remember today how progressive this was for its time. Today crossdressing on TV is - dare I say it - normal. (And rightly so!) But this was the mid 1980s, playing to a middle American audience. Its not just hilarious and touching. But really breaking new ground. God bless all of them.

dkphoenix05 Says:
Nov 2, 2008 - Actually, you're wrong. All In The Family was one of the first shows to approach cross dressing as part of a serious storyline. Edith had a best friend who was a crossdresser. The end of that friendship was just as touching as this, but I do agree with you...GG still deserves credit for how they tackled it. :)

Aug 22, 2008 - When Estelle passed away I am sure many Gay men especially in NYC took pause at the loss of such a good, kind, and decent advocate that she was in the fight against AIDS. This little Jewish woman with a heart of gold. Who says the lights on Broadway never go out. When Estelle passed one of the brightest stage lights went out for good. She will be missed, remembered, and loved...Rest in Peace our Golden Girl.
