May 28, 2007 - This clip is from my favorite Laurel & Hardy film, Sons Of The Desert (1933). I love the melody of the Ty Parvis tune, as well as the head hula dancer Charita. I am not able to find any information on her. Was this her only minute in the spotlight?

Sep 27, 2007 - This true fact may piss people off but i dont care its a cool fact: Anton LaVey, the man who created the Church Of Satan, did a cover of this song on the organ. thats how i first heard this song. I thought he wrote it. i guess i was wrong

Mar 10, 2008 - I'll tell you how good this song was; Hal Roach later lifted the soundtrack (at 2:18-2:46) for use as background music under the 1936 reissue titles of "Night Owls" (1930)...

jennybebee Says:

May 29, 2008 - Love this clip from this great comedy classic. Those bass hits during the instrumental section make the song. The way the singer dances is hilarious; his hips and legs are like jello! Love too the dames and their slightly less than svelte physiques and the puffy stuff around the ankles. Adorable. The recording by The Beau Hunks is worth checking out, as are the rest of their re-creations.

78rpm78rpm Says:

Jul 5, 2008 - TY spoofing Dick Powell, I beleive. Pre-code and no silicone. Surprising, coming from the so called,"lily white" MGM studios.

hebneh Says:

Jul 14, 2008 - I believe the lyrics are actually:"I strayed upon some NATIVES strummin' on their guitars""When you start to dance, your hula hips TO PRANCE""Honolulu baby - GONNA CALL YOUR BLUFF"I doubt the sheet music for this song was ever published, so there's probably no way to ever know for sure.

fiftiesflashback1953 Says:

Nov 5, 2008 - Ty Parvis seems to be having just a little too much "fun" doing this musical number ... draw your own conclusion. Although not considered a dancer, per se; much of his agility can be attributed to being all of 20 or 21 years old at the time of this filming. This is a Hal Roach Production, THE KEYSTONE SCHOOL of film making. The "Hula" costumes are definitely pre-production code. Great overhead Busby Berkeley style kaleidoscope shot.
