Feb 3, 2008 - I had never heard the Jo Stafford version, really pleasant! And HW is a classic too. Thanks~

Feb 3, 2008 - I haven't looked it up but from what I understand this version by Jo was a big hit in the UK.

Feb 4, 2008 - In 1952, this Jo Stafford song was on the flip side of her #1 hit "You Belong to Me". It had a number of Cajun words in it (which I'm sure a lot of people didn't understand. I didn't.)..but nevertheless, it was still immensely popular

Feb 10, 2008 - I do like this song sung by Jo. As you know, she is one of the best singers that I have ever heard!!! Thanks, Bill

bmcneese45a Says:

Feb 10, 2008 - I read recently that she was the first singer at Columbia Records to sell 25 million records. That was in 1950, a huge number of records in those days.

Mar 8, 2008 - She is an amazing singer. She really keeps the tempo and the key. In those days, the acoustics were so bad that they had to sing really loud to compensate for it. This was hard for women especially, but not for Jo. She makes the impossible seem so easy.

Mar 8, 2008 - what a voice...........strong like steel..

bmcneese45a Says:

Apr 16, 2008 - Yes and I often wonder if she knows about her posts on YouTube. So far I have had no problem with copyright although I think Jo owns all of them. Hopefully she is glad her music is being heard by young and old alike.

Apr 29, 2008 - Someone please upload "OH Shenandoah" by Jo Stafford

vinylsingleman Says:

Jun 7, 2008 - It was a big hit in the U.S. as well, getting up to Number Three I believe. And while it was the follow-up to "You Belong To Me" they were put out on seperate records.

bmcneese45a Says:

Jun 7, 2008 - Thanks for this additional information, much appreciated.

bmcneese45a Says:

Jul 17, 2008 - From the Washinfton Post ...Jo Stafford, 90, an exceptionally versatile singer who worked with Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey and the Pied Pipers and shared a Grammy Award with her conductor husband for their parody of a tone-deaf lounge act, died yesterday, July 16, at her home in Century City, Calif. She had congestive heart failure. Singer Judy Collins once said Stafford's poignant interpretation of folk ballads was pivotal to her own career in folk music. (more ...)

Jul 21, 2008 - Sadly Bruno your intelligence or lack thereof comes to the forefront here. It is a shame that you are too young to remember this era, and it is a shame that idiots like you take up space to air these ill informed views let alone air space. It goes without saying Miss Stafford had more talent in her little finger than you will ever have in your empty existence.

frereslumiere Says:

Aug 2, 2008 - Gerry and the Pacemakers recorded Jambalaya as a B-side in 1964 (it's on their first and second US LP releases). That's where I first heard it.

cjijccii Says:

Aug 13, 2008 - I am so sorry, to hear of Jo's death---she will be greatly missed!!!! I have loved her for years (and I am under 40) What a talent, unlike today when so much is horrible!!!!
