Nov 28, 2008 - I love this song. Not crazy about the video, don't feel it matches the lyrics. This song to me is one of the greatest lovesongs! I feel it and have lived it with a love that I lost cause I knew he would go home to Ireland. The feelings that I felt all in this song. Still to this day. I know that my Irish friend was my soulmate. It was just a dream...............That was 17 1/2 years ago and I still dream of him........

Nov 28, 2008 - This is NOT a love song! It's about Peter Buck's mandolin playing, he got angry and "Lost his religion", which is a southern saying for getting angry.

Nov 28, 2008 - Jar, thanks for your interpetation of the song. The great thing about the lyrics is that it could mean something different to each individual that listens to it. For me it is a love song. I am not the only one to think this either. I just googled searched the meanings and there are others out there some of say what you have said but some who also think it is a love song! So that is what makes in an awesome song. Can be what your interpetation is! Thanks though.

Nov 28, 2008 - My interpretation is what the band said, but songs can be interpratated many ways.

Nov 29, 2008 - You'd be wrong there. Stipe was having to admit his sexuality in order to tell his family he DID not have AIDs. He grew up in southern Baptist Athens, GA where gay people weren't readily accepted. He was very shy and reserved growing up, also having terrible acne. He used to hide behind his hair and mumble on stage, this is when he finally came to terms with his inner self. How about look at the back-up dancers/singers? Duh!

Dec 1, 2008 - This is "an obsession love song". Much like "Every Breath You Take" by the Police. Michael Stipe said so himself.
schibbitywah Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - This song is deeper and more romantic than Every Breath You Take though.

Nov 25, 2008 - this is the first song that michael actually dances in the video, and the reason for that is that the director saw the way he danced and decided it really fit well with the video they were gonna be making, and decided to use it. It was a smart choice, given the meaning of the song.
