Nov 2, 2008 - I really need to get a haircut, because my tenugui always get messed up.

viewson83 Says:

Nov 2, 2008 - for nothing special I assume,it's only for balance, it doesn't look good but who are we to judge him, after all he is a 9th Dan. xD

viewson83 Says:

Nov 2, 2008 - Actually he is not training them,he is examining them, that's an Examination Test, they are 8th Dan and he is testing them whether they deserve to become a 9th or not. They first start with a Keiko(Free but very technical combat),then they do a Kakarigeiko(Demonstration of the basic attacks in kendo) and finally the end with a Kirikaeshi which is some kind of "katta"(not really a katta but close enough) which helps you improve your technics.

SSJ3Croat Says:

Nov 3, 2008 - 9th dan...Something very rare to see.Very hard to achive today thanks to WW2

SSJ3Croat Says:

Nov 3, 2008 - What Dojo are you from?

RorySPQR Says:

Nov 7, 2008 - I think he's fighting two 8th dans, and one 7th dan.

qwertypolis Says:

Nov 8, 2008 - ZNKR removed the 9 and 10-dan grades in the 1990s.

qwertypolis Says:

Nov 8, 2008 - Bzzzt! It's just a demonstration and has nothing to do with any examination test. Kendo gradings are not done in such a fashion anyway.

viewson83 Says:

Nov 8, 2008 - Im a 4th Dan

qwertypolis Says:

Nov 8, 2008 - Well, then you should know how gradings are done, no? I'm surprised.

SSJ3Croat Says:

Nov 12, 2008 - Do you traine Kendo?

qwertypolis Says:

Nov 12, 2008 - Not at this very moment.

tomateradio Says:

Nov 12, 2008 - What's with the korean at the beginning? Is this Kendo or Kumdo?

qwertypolis Says:

Nov 13, 2008 - It's an interim during the 50th All Japan Kendo Championship but probably this video was taken from a Korean broadcast of the event.

buffon399 Says:

Nov 13, 2008 - Kumdo is Korean pronunciation of Kendo. 剣道

tomateradio Says:

Nov 13, 2008 - I'm not going to argue about that, but Kumdo and Kendo have similar techniques, but are not the same thing.

Lyslek Says:

Nov 14, 2008 - are they really that high? they dont like taht to me. and, no, it s not an insult

SonG0ku Says:

Nov 15, 2008 - No, it's not an eximation, they are never done in public like that. It is a demonstration. You don't become 9th Dan just like that anyway since it sort of doesn't exist anymore. If you're actually given that grade then it means A LOT.

SonG0ku Says:

Nov 15, 2008 - Indeed. And they all have the "Kyoshi"(=medium master) title. I don't know which one he has, but he was 82 years old back then...

freelancergin Says:

Nov 15, 2008 - This guy's speed and strikes are just right on. It's amazing how he can do this at his age, it beyond amazing.

buffon399 Says:

Nov 16, 2008 - Because the Korean changed some techniques to make difference from Kendo to avoid being claimed copy. But the fact is, iKumdo is a copy Kendo.Look at Kumdo uniform and bogu and shinai. They are exact copy of Kendo.
