Aug 28, 2008 - It's that diminuendo on the high C that Jussi Björling admired so much. Björling considered di Stefano as one of the greatest tenors ever, and I'm bound to agree. This recording is absolutely magic!

Aug 28, 2008 - Para ¡Tube Vic: Aún no he escuchado a Giuseppe Sabattini. Gracias. emilioperezcasas

Aug 28, 2008 - Nasal? You are so used to listen to heavy voices that you can't distinguish between a head voice sound and a nasal one

fratenore Says:

mjmacmtenor Says:

Aug 28, 2008 - I believe that Rudolph Bing (not known for his kindness) called di Stefano's high C in this aria the most beautiful sound he had ever hear from a tenor.

claudiodamilano1 Says:

(Claudio Ciccanti)

Aug 28, 2008 - wow

shinzip Says:

Aug 28, 2008 - I love his singing. You can hear such a heart when he's singing, his voice is just so warm and beautiful. However, I couldn't help commenting thathis pitch is sometimes very tiny tiny tiny tiny little bit flat, which is probably why, although he is considered one of the best tenor ever, he is not the best. (you can hear it more clearly on places where the orch. interrupts, although it could just be because it's a very old recording, in which case I would be completely wrong then..)

GermanOperaSinger Says:

Aug 28, 2008 - Agree with your first statement...but your second statement is false. His technique was awful. He never covered, and sang everything open and unsupported. What a terrible pity, the most beautiful Italian tenor of all time and he ruined it like that. I suppose with a voice as amazing as that, he didn't realize he was singing wrong because it would have sounded gorgeous even if he screamed at the top of his lungs.

Kentoo48 Says:

Aug 28, 2008 - By astounding I did not mean that his technique was good. As you have stated he didnt need any technique to sound beautiful. He reminds me of a race car driver that never takes his foot off the throttle. He surely got the performance out of what he had. Another that sings in the same manner is Chris Merritt. I did not realize that DiStefano was unaware of what he was doing to his voice singing as he did. Surely someone close to him would have advised him.. What did his teacher recommend?
