Considerato un bambino prodigio all'età di otto anni diede a Calcutta la sua prima esibizione professionale. Iniziò l'apprendimento della musica hindustani con le tabla e con il canto all'età di appena tre anni allenandosi tutti i giorni fino all'alba. Shahid Parvez proviene da una delle più importanti famiglia di musica hindustani. È nipote infatti di Vilayat Khan una delle leggende viventi del sitar. Nonostante non disdegni l'innovazione in musica è considerato un purista ed un perfezionista. Il suo stile vocale è il gayaki e il suo stile strumentale è il tantrakari. Molto richiesto e apprezzato si esibisce regolarmente in concerti ed insegna spostandosi con frequenza nei vari continenti. Il suo strumento, il sitar, è il più rappresentativo della musica hindustani. È un cordofono a manico lungo, largo e tastato, di legno (tek o mogano), cassa di risonanza di zucca vuota e corde pizzicate di acciaio, ottone e rame. L'invenzione è attribuita al poeta e musicista turco Amir Kusro e la parola stessa sitar in persiano significa Ustad Shahid...
