This is the first time I have used either of these two pieces of software and they were easy as pie and 100% open source.A Trebuchet is a counter weight powered siege engine used up until the 17th century (when gun powder became common) and, potentially, as early as 4th century BC. They use the power stored in a a large counter raised off the ground. As this weight is dropped, the arm of the Trebuchet accelerates. At an optimal point, the missile (typically a rock) is released. This is controlled by a sling which cups the missile until there is enough centrifugal force for the sling to release. There are several methods for making the sling release, all adjustable, but in this example, I simply used a spring and tweaked the strength of the spring and the weight of the missile until everything worked as desired. Invention and perfection of the Floating Axle King Arthur Trebuchet. I (Craig Macomber) invented the Floating Axle King Arthur Trebuchet (FAKA) in October 2006. The design was optimized through computer simulations and scaled up to make the Golf Ball Beast (GBB) in 2007. GBB threw over 320 feet with 5 pounds of counterweight, and 690 feet with 15 pounds. My design was then scaled up and improved structurally by the engineers at Janicki Industries when they made J-Buchet which was entered in the Burlington Pumpkin Pitch in late September 2007. a siege weapon for your deskspecs:length-2500mmwidth-200mmheight-40mmmass-up to 0.75kgrange-4mprojectile mass- 0.075has a range of 3-4 metres!as per request by dragon9fire.there is now an upgrade to stop it shaking when you launch.after several people mentioned the the sling instructions weren't that clear, i thought i'll try to make it a bit easier to understand;the sling is made of a triangle of cloth(cut up an old t-shirt or something of similar thickness).(each side of the triangle is slightly longer then a yellow rod)then get some lengths of string- one is about twice as long as the other. (the longer one is about the length of 2 red rods- the shorter one is a bit longer than 1 red rod)make a small hole near to each corner of the triangle (about 1cm from the edges).
