There was a clarinet sound in the original MkI Mellotron (very rare; most were immediately converted to MkII's), but it was eliminated for the MkII. When the M400 came along in 1970, a clarinet sound emerged again. I'm not sure if the sound in this example is that original MkI clarinet or else a new one recorded specifically for the M400, but I can say that it's one of the most singularly beautiful sounds in the entire Mellotron library. Resist the temptation to associate this sound with Yes/Rick Wakeman; the organ Wakeman used for the Yes/solo albums was a real one.
