青 春 鼓 手 is a cover song which Teresa Teng recorded in 1969, of the Hong Kong movie King Drummer 青春 鼓王(香港版) in 1967 by the Shaw Brothers. In 1967 On the invitation of the Shaw Brothers, Japanese director Inoue Umetsugu made King Drummer, which stars Ling Yun 凌雲 as a drummer and Lily Ho 何莉莉 as the band manageress. The story starts with Sun (Ling Yun) agreeing to help music magazine editor Lee to date the band manageress, Jane, and help his magazine sales. While Sun successfully becomes the band's top drummer, he finds it increasingly difficult to fulfill his promise about Jane. His mother also disagrees with the career path he chooses. At the same time, he earns the wrath of the predecessor who is jealous of his success and the fondness of Jane. In an ambush, his predecessor and a group of thugs beat him up and broke his hands, in an attempt to intimidate him and to stop him from performing. He decides to play for the very last time, against his predecessor in a duel in public, and sings and drums at the same time and wins the contest despite his agony. In the end, he gives up his music career but professes his love of Jane. The film was a refreshing change from the cookie-cutter styles of Hong Kong Chinese Kung-Fu movies in the 1960s.
